Every mattress needs some kind of mattress cleaning done from time to time. Whether it is your bed mattress or another kind of mattress, dust and other stuffs are bound to build up in there. Aside from just making the mattress look gross, these unwanted materials can cause serious problems. Aside from being uncomfortable, these materials can also be dangerous. These problems are compounded by the fact that the usual cleaning methods often leave residue behind. You will end up with a mattress that is matted, sticky, and unhealthy.
During mattress cleaning, you will have to remove all the loose, folded, and/or crumpled sheets on the bed. Wash these sheets individually using warm water and a mild detergent. Remove any blankets, pillows, and covers from the bed. If possible, move the mattress to another room.
After you have washed the sheets, use a vacuum cleaner to remove any visible debris on them. Sprinkle some baking soda on the clean sheets, and allow it to sit for approximately 20 minutes. This will kill any bacteria present. It is also important to note that you should only use a mild detergent for this purpose. Using a strong detergent may only cause the problem to worsen.
After you have completed the first step, you can proceed with the second one. For your vacuum cleaner, choose either a hand-held unit or an upholstery attachment. For the upholstery attachment, you can either choose a scrub brush or a microfiber attachment. After using the device on both the upholstery attachment and the hand-held unit, you can now proceed to the next step of mattress cleaning. This next task includes removing any remaining dust and dirt from the mattress.
For this task, you can either choose a HEPA filter that is designed to remove odors, or purchase an odorless mattress protector. These are designed to cover any remaining odors in the mattress. However, if you find that these products do not work well in removing odors, you can buy an air purifier. By mixing oxygen with plain water, you can create an excellent air purifier that can effectively remove mold and mildew odors from your mattress.
After vacuuming your mattresses, you can remove any remaining dust and dirt by hand. Mattresses can accumulate dust and dirt due to the action of people while sleeping. Even after you have cleaned your mattresses, they can still harbor bacteria and mold if they are not properly cared for. As much as possible, you should try to avoid sleeping on your mattresses until they are completely clean. This will ensure that the dust and bacteria will be completely gone.
If you have found that your mattress is filled with dust and smells musty, then you should consider using a humidifier. This will help eliminate any dampness that may be present. A humidifier works best when it is mixed with some air. Since air is heavier than water, it sinks to the bottom and helps eliminate odors that float to the top.
Aside from replacing your mattresses if they are stained or moldy, there are other methods that you can employ in order to freshen up your mattresses. You can try putting a slice of white bread on your mattress and leaving for several hours. This will rid your mattress of the smell of bread and any other unpleasant odor. You can also try using orange peels. Similar to white bread, orange peels will effectively rid your mattress of their unpleasant odors.
If you find that you have bed bugs and you need to clean them up, then you can spray gel or oil cleaner on them. This will effectively kill the bugs and the eggs they lay. You can also use warm soapy water and wash them down on your bed. While you are doing this however, you should make sure that your mattress is totally dry.
Bed sheets can be very dusty and can give off an unpleasant odor. If you cannot seem to get rid of the dust mites that are in your mattress, then you should place a sheet over them. This will keep them off of your bed and at the same time keep your bed sheets clean. On top of that, bed sheets and pillow cases can also harbor harmful bugs and mites. In order to get rid of these bugs, you should place plastic sheeting over your mattress at night. This is because it traps moisture in your room and traps the mites as well.
If you have pillows and blankets in your bedroom, then you should clean them at least once a week. Find some heavy duty laundry detergent and a soft brush. You should scrub these pillows and blankets thoroughly. While you are at it, you should also vacuum any carpets and floors that are not cleaned on a regular basis.
